Lifestyle Gadget : e-Starling 2.0 Digital Wi-Fi Photo Frame

Once upon a time, around the time that Fox Talbot was developing his first set of reprints, the photographic frame was born. Nothing too innovative about it, you might think. Indeed. For it was a straightforward evolution of the frames that had adorned the oil paintings and assorted objets d'art in the National Gallery for generations. And so the humble photo frame remained for 150 years. Until now.

Digital photography and the emergence of low cost LCD displays has enabled a quantum leap in the design and functionality of the photo frame. But its short digital life has been hindered by the need to transfer images manually; by memory card, USB stick or cable. No longer - for the glory that is WiFi technology has given us a digital photo frame replete with its own IP address.

Now one can send digital photos to this sleek, black photo frame from wherever one is in the world. Simply add the frame to one's local wireless network, squirt one's JPEG images to its unique email address - and the frame takes care of the rest, adding the newly received images to its existing bank of stored photos. A triumph in thinking that would have outfoxed Fox Talbot himself. Remarkable.

And, after all that wireless palaver, should one wish to actually transfer the images using old-fashioned manual techniques, no fewer than four different flavours of memory card may be deployed. But why one would want to is quite beyond us.
